A federal high court in Damaturu has ordered the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise Bashir Machina as the candidate for Yobe north senatorial district election.
Fadima Murtala Aminu, the judge, asked the APC to send the name of Machina to INEC as the winner of the senatorial primary election which was held in May, 2022.
Machina and Senate President Ahmad Lawan have been at war over the senatorial ticket for Yobe north.
Lawan had sought the presidential ticket of the APC, but he lost to Bola Tinubu.
The APC had sent Lawan’s name to INEC as its candidate for the senatorial election, but Machina went to court to challenge the decision.
Machina was reportedly asked to stand down for Lawan, but the candidate said he would not.
He said he contested and won the senatorial election in a valid primary election.
The court on Wednesday agreed with his argument and ordered that he should be recognised as the valid senatorial candidate for Yobe north district.
