A federal high court in Lagos has ordered the Labour Party (LP) and its supporters not to gathered around the Lekki tollgate for its “#Obidatti23 Forward Ever” rally on October 1.
The Obi movement had said it was going to hold a rally in the area on Independence Day.
On Wednesday, Daniel Osiago, the judge, asked the Lagos state police commissioner and inspector-general of police to ensure compliance to his order restraining the group from converging on the tollgate.
The judge, however, said Obi supporters could pass through the area.
The judgment followed a suit filed by a group of concerned Nigerians.
The order was issued pending consideration of the main suit.
The plaintiffs — Adedotun Ajulo, Salamatu Lewi, Hakeem Ijaduola, Ogunbona Akinpelu, Owolabi Oluwasegun, Mogbojuri Kayode, Wuyep Nadom, Dimimu Mabel, Kolawole Salami and Wale Lawrence — argued that the rally could cause a breakdown of law and order in Lagos, similar to what happened during the October 2020 #EndSARS rally in which lives were lost and property destroyed across the sstate.
The court adjourned the matter to November 4 for hearing of the substantive suit.
