The leading presidential candidates in the 2023 race on Thursday signed a peace accord.
Those present at the signing which took place in Abuja were Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); Kashim Shettima, vice-presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who represented Bola Tinubu, the party’s presidential candidate; Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party; Rabiu Kwankwaso, presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party; and Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC).
The peace accord was broker by the National Peace Committee (NPC) led Abdulsalami Abubakar, former head of state.
The signing of the peace pact has become a constant feature in every election cycle since 2014.
The NPC is a non-governmental initiative which was set up in response to emerging threats occasioned by the 2015 general election.
