Rivers state house of assembly has passed a motion to delist Celestine Omehia as former governor of the state.
In a motion on Thursday, Martin Amaewmule, house leader, asked the assembly to reverse an earlier resolution of the eighth assembly on June 30, 2015, which compelled the executive arm to recognise Omehia as a former governor and be accorded all entitlements, privileges and benefits.
Omehia was governor of Rivers from May 29, 2007 to October 25, 2007.
The supreme court annulled his election on the grounds that he was not the legitimate candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The court ruled in Rotimi Amaechi’s favour. Amaechi had won the PDP governorship primary election but was substituted with Omehia by the party over allegations of corruption.
Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, had reinstated Omehia’s rights and privileges as an ex-governor, reportedly paying his entitlements.
But Omehia, recently, fell out with Wike over his support for Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the PDP.
Wike is having a running battle with Atiku, but Omehia appears to have pitched his tent with the PDP presidential candidate.
The Rivers state governor lost the PDP presidential ticket to Atiku who ignored picking him as running mate.
In the heat of the face-off with Atiku, Wike who has remained implacable, vowed to crush his enemies and those who betray him.
He said: “I was on a plane with him (Ikpeazu) and we were discussing and he said why won’t I leave this thing for God and I said what do you mean by that? Why are you overcrowding God? God has given me what it takes for me to crush these people, for me to crush my enemies and you are telling me I should leave it for God. No. God has give me what it takes. God has so many things to do. There are the ones I should do and there are the ones I should call God.”
