Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, has appointed 14,000 advisers.
According to a statement by Kelvin Ebiri, Wike’s media aide, the governor also appointed 319 ward liaison officers and 40 local government area liaison officers.
The governor said the advisers will play a vital role in his administration, which has less than eight months left to spend in office.
“In addition to the 14,000 advisers, Governor Wike has also appointed 319 Ward Liaison Officers and 40 Local Government Area Liaison Officers. The appointments are with immediate effect,” the statement said.
The appointment comes as the campaigns have kicked off and ahead of the 2023 general election.
Wike is having a running battle with Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The governor is insisting on the resignation of Iyorchia Ayu, PDP national chairman, as a condition for supporting Atiku’s presidential bid.
But Ayu, who is backed by Atiku, has remained adamant.
Wike and four other PDP governors were absent from the launch of the party’s presidential campaign in Akwa Ibom on Monday.
