The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared Senator Uba Sani, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Kaduna, the winner of Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
Lawal Bilbis, the Returning Officer for Kaduna state and vice-chancellor of the Usman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto, declared Mr Sani winner, having polled 730,002 votes.
He defeated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Isa Ashiru, who polled 719,196 votes.
In the third position was Jonathan Asake of the Labour Party (LP) candidate, who garnered 58,283 votes, with the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) candidate, Suleiman Hunkuyi, coming fourth with 21,405 votes.
While Mr Sani won 10 local government areas, his closest rival, Mr Ashiru, won 13.
Mr Sani, a serving senator, won local government areas such as Kaduna North, Giwa, Igabi, Kaduna South Zaria, Ikara, Kauru, Sabon-Gari, Kubau, and Birnin-Gwari.
On the other hand, Mr Ashiru won Soba, Kudan, Kaura, Chikun, Kachia, Sanga, Kajuru, Jaba, Makarfi, Jema’ah, Zango-Kataf, Kagarko, and Lere.
Mr Sani currently represents the Kaduna Central Senatorial District.
