The Nigerian Army has dispelled reports that Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, has resigned.
That the online report alleging that Lagbaja had submitted his resignation letter to President Bola Tinubu is false.
The report claimed that his resignation came 24 hours after escaping an assassination attempt on his life. It added that Lagbaja’s resignation has thrown the military hierarchy into a state of confusion.
However, responding to an inquiry by our correspondent on Monday, the director of army public relations, Maj Gen Onyema Nwachukwu, described the report as fake news. “It is fake news; please disregard it,” he said.
The 23rd Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Taoreed Lagbaja was appointed on 19 June 19 2023, by President Tinubu to succeed Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya.
