The 137 (the number was initially reported as 287) abducted in the Kuriga community of Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Thursday, 7 March 2024 have been released.
The LEA Primary School, Kuriga and Junior Secondary School were invaded by bandits around 8 am carting away students and tutors including a principal, Abubakar Isah on that ill-fated day.
Governor Uba Sani released a statement on Sunday, 24 March confirming the development.
It was gathered that the 137 abductees released have been taken to hospitals for medical attention. However, one of the victims died in captivity.
The abductors were reported to have demanded N1bn for the release of the victims, however, both the federal and state governments had maintained that no ransom would be paid.
TheLink News cannot confirm if the ransom was paid or not.
It may be recalled that President Tinubu had issued a directive to security agencies including the military to do whatever it took to secure the release of the other abductees when the news broke.
