The leader of Hamas’ military wing, the al-Qassam brigades, was killed by an airstrike in north Lebanon near the city of Tripoli, according to a media outlet affiliated with the group.
The Israeli military has not commented on the report, which if confirmed would be the first strike on Tripoli, Lebanon’s second-largest city.
Hamas has yet to officially comment on the reports.
As Israel continues to bombard Lebanon at an intensity that has not been seen outside Gaza in the last 20 years, according to air warfare experts. Israel’s aerial assault on Hezbollah has led to a dire humanitarian situation, and a strike Friday cut off a key crossing with Syria that had allowed tens of thousands to flee Lebanon.
