The Governor of Katsina State, Dikko Umar Radda, is in mourning following the passing of his beloved mother, Hajia Safara’u Umar Radda. She passed away in the early hours of Sunday at the age of 82 after a brief illness.
In a statement released by the Katsina State Government, Governor Radda expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing his mother as a pillar of strength and an unwavering source of guidance throughout his life.
“My mother was a beacon of love, kindness, and wisdom. She instilled in me the values of hard work, integrity, and service to humanity. Her passing is a great personal loss, but I take solace in the beautiful life she lived,” the governor said.
Condolences Pour In
Since the announcement of her passing, condolences have been pouring in from political leaders, traditional rulers, and well-wishers across the country. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in a condolence message, described Hajia Safara’u as “a devoted mother whose legacy of kindness and humility lives on through her children.”
Former President Muhammadu Buhari, a native of Katsina State, also extended his sympathies, stating, “The loss of a mother is one of the deepest sorrows in life. I pray that Governor Radda and his family find strength during this difficult time.”
The Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, paid tribute to the late matriarch, acknowledging her contributions to her community. “She was a woman of virtue, known for her generosity and devotion to family and faith. May Allah grant her eternal rest,” he said.
Burial and Funeral Rites
Hajia Safara’u Umar Radda was laid to rest on Sunday afternoon in accordance with Islamic rites at her family residence in Katsina. The burial ceremony was attended by top government officials, religious leaders, and family members who gathered to pay their last respects.
Prayers were also held at the Katsina Central Mosque, where clerics prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul and for strength for Governor Radda and his family to bear the loss.
A Life of Service and Devotion
Hajia Safara’u Umar Radda was known for her philanthropic works, particularly in supporting widows, orphans, and the less privileged. Many in her community have described her as a mother to all, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.
“She was a kind-hearted woman who always looked out for others. Her generosity knew no bounds,” said a longtime neighbor, Malam Sani Lawal.
