The United Kingdom Prime Minister, Liz Truss has resigned after spending just 45 days in office.
Her resignation comes after a key minister quit and Tory MPs rebelled in chaotic parliamentary votes, BBC reports.
Ms Truss was elected by the Tory membership in September, but she lost authority after a series of U-turns.
“I recognise that given the situation, I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected by the Conservative Party.
“I have therefore spoken to His Majesty the King to notify him that I am resigning as leader of the Conservative Party,” Truss said.
A leadership election for MPs to select her successor will be “completed within the next week.”
