Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has said it recorded the highest volume of refunds to air travelers in 2024.
Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection of the (NCAA) Michael Achimugu, disclosed this on Nigeria Info FM, saying refunds were guaranteed if air passengers would report it to them.
He maintained that there was no justification for disorderly passenger behaviour, saying mechanisms were in place for passengers to report poor treatment by airlines.
Achimugu said: “The procedure (for refund) is straightforward. First, you complain to the airline. Where they fail to resolve, you report to the NCAA. Every single day, refunds are being paid. As a matter of fact, in 2024, we were able to achieve the highest volume of refunds and compensations in the history of the NCAA.
“Two weeks ago, I announced the initiation of sanctions against five airlines – three domestic, two international and that was the first time in over a decade for consumer protection-related issues. We had positive feedback over that. There is no justification for unruly passenger behaviour anywhere in the world and that is why there are mechanisms in place for you to report every disservice meted out on you at the airport.”
