Thugs wielding machetes have reportedly attacked Atiku Abubakar’s campaign rally in Kaduna.
The thugs were said to have attacked PDP supporters at Ranchers Stadium in the state.
However, the intervention of security agents was said to have forestalled a complete breakdown of law and order.
Atiku, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), tweeted on the incident on Monday.
He condemned the attack and asked all parties to abide by the letters of the Peace Accord.
“I have just received emergency reports of attacks on @OfficialPDPNig supporters by thugs sponsored to scuttle the ongoing PDP campaign rally in Kaduna State. This is undemocratic and against the Peace Accord all parties signed up for just a few weeks ago,” he said.
“I urge President Muhammadu Buhari to call on all parties to call their supporters and members to order and to ensure that campaigns, just as with the elections themselves, are kept free, fair and safe.”
